Say it isn't so. Looking back at pictures of our summer. It seemed so long ago that we were in the throes of All Stars and yet the entire summer seemed to fly by. Seriously, we had one of our best summers.
We are in our second week of school. And the boys are not happy about it. I remember when Jack would get so excited about going back to school. This year was different. I think he had a really awesome summer and was just really sad to see it end. It doesn't help that the last week before school starts, we take our annual trip to Hatteras for a week. The boys get to sleep in every day, stay up late, do whatever they want, eat snacks all day, drink sodas, and lay around the beach with their friends. It's heaven in their minds (well, mine too). And then it's not only over, but with the end of vacation comes the end of summer. And they are back to early bedtimes and routines, waking up early, homework, chores. They got it so rough. The second half of our summer was just as great as the first. Maybe better. We got a break from baseball. Football season started at the end of July and the boys conditioned the entire month of August. I have a newfound respect for football players. It ain't no joke. We spent a weekend in July with Honey & Pop Pop as their usual Hatteras house. Bella fell in love the beach. The boys were down there the entire week. I didn't see Cameron for 8 days! It was the longest time I've been away from him. Ever. Bella celebrated her third birthday Frozen style; we had a few cookouts with friends; Josh (finally) started work on the front porch (it's still a work in process). The boys played a lot of football and basketball outdoors, played in the pool (I'm gonna miss that), and rode their bikes. Our vacation could not have went better. Well, maybe a little less wind. But at least we ddn't see a hurricane. It was truly a great vacation and I didn't want it to end. 7 days in Hatteras is not enough. Next year - Disney World.

{240/365}: Cooked out with the fam. BBQ chicken on the grill. Pool time. Sydney taught Bella how to swim (or at least got her over some of her fear of the water). Did I mention how much she missed all of them???? {241/365}: Last day of summer vacation. {242/365}: First day of school. 2nd grader and 5th grader. {243/365}: Day 2. And still smiling. {244/365}: Bath time & bubble beards. {245/365}: Friday night walkthrough before our first game. {246/365}: First football game. We beat the Steelers 16-8. The boys did great and had a great time.
I'm having a really hard time with the end of summer. See, I suffer from seasonal depression. I HATE winter. It seems to go on forever. And this summer literally flew by. I feel so jipped. We had a late start. And the first month was packed with baseball All Stars. We had birthdays, Father's day, home projects, and then we were planning for our vacation. Then, poof. I'm back to school shopping, our vacation is over, the kids are back to school, I'm back to work. And the mums are out at the grocery store. Waaaaaaahhhhh.
Don't get me wrong. I enjoy Fall. I like Halloween and Thanksgiving. I like basketball season. I like Christmas; I just despise Christmas shopping. And cold weather. I hate pumping gas when it's cold outside. I hate going from throwing on flip flops to stuffing my jeans into my Uggs. I hate wearing coats. I hate closing my pool and putting away the sunscreen. But I digress. Today the boys started back to school. And it hit me. Winter is coming. (That, and I seriously have some of the cutest kids in the world.) As is our tradition, the 5 of us went to the bus stop this morning. It was the first time that they made the trip without racing Chase, who started middle school. He was sitting on his front porch even though his bus wasn't coming for another hour. Jackson was pretty excited to find out that Darius is going to be in his class. Cameron just kept grinning; I think he was nervous and trying to cover it up. But I also think he thought he looked pretty sweet. I love these boys. Bella wasn't quite sure what to expect. I think she was a little nervous. Maybe she was worried she was going to have to get on the bus? When I asked Darius to take a picture with Jack and Cam (which Darius did without hesitation, I might add), Jackson complained, "I hate when you do things like this". That stung. But only for a second. "Get over it. This is what Mom's do. And this is the only day I will come to your bus stop. " But seriously, why does he have to be a jerk about it? Whatever. I guess I should just get used to it. But I don't wanna. Middle School is going to suck. And puberty. Puberty sucks. {233/365}: First official day of vacation. Hurricane winds (not really, but it sure felt like it). Caught this rare moment on camera. Building their little sand city (Jackson called it minecraft). {234/365}: Had such a great time with friends this week. We ended long days at the beach in the hot tub. {235/365}: By the middle of the week, the wind was easing up. Finally able to get in the water without fear of being swept out to sea. {236/365}: Lighthouse at Buxton. Too windy to go to the top so we took a quick photo and dipped out. {237/365}: Thanks to Will for this family photo. We have so few of these. (Trip to Ocracoke). {238/365}: Last day of vacation. Had such a great and memorable trip. Thanks to the stranger at the Sno Cone place that offered to take this for us. {239/365}: She had a good vacation. Home sweet home.

AuthorMy name is Kaci. I am a working mom of 3. Wife to Josh. Mom to Jackson, Cameron & Isabella. My life is dinner, homework, baseball, basketball, grocery lists, laundry, middle school, wine, video games, and schedules. I started this blog because I love taking pictures, and I needed a place to document our life. I wanted a place to write it all down, to remember little details so easily forgotten in the mad rush that is the life of a family of 5. Through my photos and words, I endeavor to capture our story.
