At last night's game, you took a hard ground ball to the mouth. Fortunately, I didn't see it happen. The ump was in my way. But I heard it. And when I stood up and saw you on your knees holding your mouth, I almost threw up.
This is your first baseball injury. I know it won't be the last. You play some pretty competitive baseball. And you are a rough and tumble kid. But it sucks.
I tried not to overreact and run onto the field. Daddy went out there. He told me later on, he was pretty scared. Which says a lot. It must've been a pretty bad hit.
But then I remembered, I'm a nurse and you're my kid. And you're 8. And 8 year olds want their mommies. You were bleeding and your lip swelled up right away. I was more worried about your teeth and had to check those right away. Thankfully, the two front teeth were intact and nothing was lose.
The most amazing part about it all. This happened in the first inning, the second batter. You never came out of the game. Daddy got you cleaned up, you stood back up, everyone cheered. And the game went on. Your next at bat, you hit a home. Running around the bases with a fat lip. You even have a small abrasion on your upper lip from the seam of the ball.
For me, it was pitiful and broke my heart. But for Daddy, his chest swelled up. And I thought he might cry. He was so very proud. I guess it's a man thing.
My name is Kaci. I am a working mom of 3. Wife to Josh. Mom to Jackson, Cameron & Isabella. My life is dinner, homework, baseball, basketball, grocery lists, laundry, wine, video games, and bath time. I started this blog because I am passionate about photography and journaling, and because I wanted a place to write it all down, to rememeber little details so easily forgotten in the mad rush that is the life of a family of 5. Through my photos and words, I endeavor to capture our story.
