So Fall has officially arrived. Ok, the first day of Fall was like last week, but we had temperatures in the 80's still. And I'll admit I hold onto Summer as long as I can. I love love love Summer. Don't get me wrong. I don't mind Fall. Fall just implies impending Winter, which I despise. I enjoy Fall. It is a nice change from the heat and humidity. And Thanksgiving and Halloween are my favorite holidays. Plus, my birthday is in the Fall. So....it's not bad. If we could skip straight to Spring, that would be my ideal. Anyways, I just feel like September flew by. And now October is here. And I have one lonely pumpkin and no motivation to decorate. So here is what my yard looked like last Fall. I was totally robbed of Summer this year. Each year, Summer appears to get shorter and shorter. Of course having three kids and something to do practically every weekend helps the time fly by. All Stars baseball starts us off and this eats into the beginning of the Summer. Jackson played for the Kempsville Red this year. If I'm being honest, I hated it. It is so much work. Practice every night of the week. Games all weekend. In the heat. Keeping in mind the fact that I am not a teacher - which means every night is still a work night for me. And then if your kid doesn't get much playing time, as mine didn't this year, you become frustrated, impatient, and resentful. I understand the whole All Stars deal. My husband is a coach, and he has played baseball his entire life. When you have 13 of the best kids in the league, someone still has to sit the bench. I get it. But show me one Mom who doesn't mind when it's their kid. And since my husband is one of the coaches, he gets an earful on the way home. Every time. Yes, I am that Mom. My kid is good but under appreciated. And you can't tell me otherwise. But, I digress. The rest of our Summer is usually beach, beach, and more beach. We have a pool, which has been more useful than I had thought it would be. The boys get a lot of use out of it. I just like the idea of a pool. Sitting at the table next to the pool with the option to get in if it gets too hot. But we still spend a lot of time at the beach. The older I get, the more I appreciate it. We celebrate several birthdays in the Summer. Beginning with Josh and Jordan, who share a birthday on June 28th. Usually this is celebrated with a cookout/pool party, cornhole, lots of food, and music and dancing late into the night. My mom turned the big 60 this August. We asked her what she wanted to do this year and we weren't at all surprised by her response - she wanted to go with her daughters to a Drag Show. So we did. And it was definitely....memorable. Bella turned 2 this Summer. We had a party for her at the house again. I love August birthday parties. (Jack & Cameron are in the early Spring and it is usually still cold). Another cookout/pool party. Cornhole. Lots of food. We made wings and they were ahhhmmmmaaazinnng. Bella got a new swing set from her grandparents (she loves to "wing"). She really got into her birthday party this year - the presents, the kids, and especially being sung to. "Cha cha cha"! To us, summer is time spent with family. Last year, we took our first family vacation in August - a week spent in Hatteras NC at the beach. We have been going yearly for the past decade with Josh's family. But that has gotten harder and harder to plan - with our growing families and busy schedules. But we love it down there on Highway 12 and, now that there are 5 of us, we get our own house. It was a perfect week - the weather, the house on the sound side, the guests, the food, and the sunsets. Prior to that in July, we had a mini-vacation, a preview, in Hatteras with the kids and Josh's parents for a long weekend. Well that concludes our Summer. Before I knew it, school was starting, fall ball was upon us. And I was at the store buying a pumpkin.

AuthorMy name is Kaci. I am a working mom of 3. Wife to Josh. Mom to Jackson, Cameron & Isabella. My life is dinner, homework, baseball, basketball, grocery lists, laundry, middle school, wine, video games, and schedules. I started this blog because I love taking pictures, and I needed a place to document our life. I wanted a place to write it all down, to remember little details so easily forgotten in the mad rush that is the life of a family of 5. Through my photos and words, I endeavor to capture our story.
